new cabelas in omaha

Take I-80 through Omaha and follow the signs for Lincoln. Not sure on the exact exit. But I know you can see it from the Interstate.

The store can easily be seen from I-80 regardless of whether you're traveling east or west

They have been broadcasting traffic warnings for this weekend on the local radio stations, comparing it to College World Series delays out at that intersection. Should be interesting. I guess I don't have great expectations for archery but the firearms should be top shelf.

I got a behind the scene special tour last Thursday afternoon... Expect to not only be impressed, but thankful they put as much into that store as they did...

The archery area was very impressive... Better than I thought it would be... Best layout of any Cabela's I've been in.

I don't work for them but became friends with a guy at the corporatee office and he arranged it for me.

At 3 today I get to g again for the media opening... Between that store and the Bass Pro in CB, I will never be right!

Until they decide to open a store in Iowa I'll spend my money at Gander Mtn., Scheel's, or Sportsmen's Warehouse. The fact that Nebraska could have 2 outlets and Iowa has none borders on ridiculous.

3 Cabelas retail stores in Nebraska now:

-Sidney
-Kearney
-LaVista

Good to hear about the archery department. I drove by this morning on I-80 on the way back from Lincoln. There must be fifty semi trailers lined up on the southwest side. I suppose if it is like the Scheel's grand opening was out here in west O, they are probably full of product. They have portable lights in the fields down below for additional parking where there were 100-150 cars already parked in the grass. Must be employee parking for now. Any idea how it compares to the KC or Minn. MN store?

Haven't been in the LaVista store, but I can't imagine it would be better than Kansas City. KC gave Cabela's tons of incentives to locate there and this allowed the taxidermy in that store to reach the unbelievable level where it is. The State of Nebraska wasn't willing to offer them quite so sweet of a deal.

KC is something like 230,000 square feet..

LaVista is 128,000..

Main diffence that I noticed it in LaVista they don't have entire wings dedicated to game mounts.. Like the Africa room or the Whitetails of North America room..

They still have smokin cool mounts, just scattered throughout the store since more is dedicated to retail.

8AM...

They are expecting College World Series level traffic.... Going to be nuts.

20-30 THOUSAND visitors a day for the first week or so...

Which is why I will shop Bass Pro if I need anything... shouldn't be much traffic there.

It will interesting to see how BPS, Scheels and Cabela's all survive in Omaha. It wasn't that long ago when all they had was Canfield's and Guns Unlimited. Jumbo Sports went under and the excitement was Galyvans coming into the Westroads (now it is a worthless [censored]'s). Times sure have changed but at the end of the day I'll keep supporting the local archery shop.

Have you ever tried to get to the BPS in Council Bluffs? What a nightmare, it's too late if you see the store from the interstate, you gotta turn around, lots of truck traffic at that exit, then you take winding road into the parking lot which has one way in and out. Been there once, done that!

Then to top it off they Home Depot'd it. They have an in door and an out door on the other side of the store.
Good riddance, Cabelas will eat'em alive.

I give BPS a year or less.

Went late opening night after hunting at my brothers place near Fremont. No crowd at all. Looks like a real nice store. Different layout. Spent an hour at the gun counter getting my son his first gun. Its a three barrel combo .22/.243/20 guage. I'm sure I'll spend quite a bit of time there in the future.
