Do you think that if you put a normal DB next to a couple big round bales that a deer would pick you off? Especially if you had the mesh over the windows and maybe a little hay spread on the top of the blind? I've often wanted to try this, just can't quite locate the spot for it.
Yes, they always seem to notice the shape out of place. At least that has been my experience.
They work OK for deer if you have an hour to brush them in and leave them sit for a week. I like the idea of just plopping down with minimal cover. Will it work better? Time will tell.
Better do alot of field hunting for me to justify the cost of DB blind.
I do some haying for a friend in the summer and have often moved 3 bails in a triangle shape just big enough for a chair in the center. I have moved alot more bales together than actually sat, but when I did I had deer plenty of deer within range.
The real test will be when it is in a field with 10 other bales and you plop it down and setup for the evening.

I got the spot for it, but it usually isn't ready until the first week of Nov. or so as the farmer doesn't cut this field until very late in the year (works out well for me as it leaves plenty of bedding). If he gets it out early this year we can set it up and see how it works.
Also, if you make it to IL I have another spot it can go, make sure when they bust your a$$ in that you send him running my way
I have done it before in the spring for turkeys in an area where 30 deer will walk out in the field and they never pick off the blind. Usually the turkey decoy but it seems if it is placed on the end of a hay bale row and is staked down so it the fabric isn't moving, it works fine.
I had a spot overlooking a hayfield one year and set my double bull right in the middle of a row of bales and the deer didn't mind at all... as long as the wind is right.... sometimes I think the glare will spook them a little bit, but I had shots out of it so I'd say go for it.
