New Ex step system/Lone Wolf sticks

They hang there and can move around as you put your foot in there. Call me crazy for wanting stable footing while climbing up a tree. A new stick would probably not cost much more. Interesting idea, but not for me!

One could also argue that a foot in a stirrup is safer then a foot on a peg. The cost of another stick isn't the issue imo, with the advantage of these. I already have 6 sticks. For me, and many, it is the savings on weight and savings on time of hanging a less stick or two to reach the desired height one wants to achieve. Similiar to the UCR's. They aren't anything a guy has to have, they just lighten the load, are quieter, and have added length to go around bigger diameter trees. These and the UCR's aren't for everyone.

Now that you mention the stirrup like look of them... I remember once getting my foot stuck in a stirrup while riding my horse, those things could almost double as a safety harness if you got stuck in one "properly" while slipping/falling!

Did you ever use those UCR's in rain or sleet? I was a little curious how they'd grip the rope when the rope itself was slick or snow covered.

They look sweet but I remember this one time in Idaho when I rode a horse into camp my foot got caught in the stirrup upon getting off and I hung upside down for awhile. Not fun. I would probably use them on the bottom two sticks though. Its a good idea, just not sure if they are meant for clumsy size 14 extra wides :)

Looks like a PITA to me. Good luck getting your foot in one of those while its moving around in the dark. If you do, better luck getting your boots back out. No way.

I like the first or second step thought but would agree that higher looks risky to me. I do like the URC's

Same here. I talked to the guy about it when he first came out with the idea and really, you don't save that much from buying one new stick as previously mentioned. I guess you could argue you're packing less weight with this system but then you have to take into account that you have to deal with several stirrups, pack them without losing them, hang them all, etc. And a single LW stick don't weight that much. Kind of a neat idea but not worth the savings from the real thing IMO. Got a lot of hype over at AT though leading up to the "big reveal". :D

I can't see how rain or sleet would affect the UCR. I try not to hunt up in trees in rain. I am too sweet and run the risk of melting.

The video definitely reinforces my opinion of PITA. He had to look down and fish around with his foot to get in the stirrups. Not something you are going to enjoy in the dark I guarantee. Another all hype no substance product. The hype will always suck in a few but if I were him, I wouldnt quit my day job.

I'd rather not have my foot inside a stirrup.

A couple of screw-in steps at the base of your tree can gain you 4' pretty easily.
