New GROWL call from Drury

I am not certain but I think it is possible that this year the new growl call from Drury could to be what spinner decoys were to duck hunting a few years ago. If you have not seen it yet watch Drury Dream season 9 and watch the section on the growl call.It is a new vocalization that they harnessed into a call and they have video footage of bucks reacting in the wild to this call. The footage captured for instance is a doe that was shot in heat, a buck comes in and growls and begins to attack the dead dow goaring the doe, the growling brings in ALL of the bucks in the area. (You have to watch the footage it is incredible!) The way that bucks seem to react to this call is unbelievable.

I can't wait to try it!

I saw the episode on tv & picked up a call up at Cabelas this weekend. It comes with a small dvd for $19.99

There's not a lot of friends of Drury in here, but the call looked amazing on the video. I hope to have the same results this season. I enjoy their line of videos the best, and wish them much success with the new call.

from the same people who brought you the "silent" turkey locator call.......basically a dog whistle. it worked great on the videos too.

as with all calls, there may be a time and place for it, but I don't think I would compare the growl to what spinners did to duck hunting. That wouldn't be giving a wise old buck enough credit.

You can simulate the "Growl" sound with any decent grunt call. It's the tone and length of grunt that make the "Growl" sound. I can do the same sound with my old Rod Benson call that I got 16 years ago.....

Todd but you don't get a neat dvd that will really get you excited with that old call.

I've never in my life heard a snort wheez before but I have heard a growl before. About 6 or 7 yrs ago I was out coyote hunting on a full moon. My bro was about 30 yds away from me on a steep bank and he heard a coyote down below him. A little later from out in front of us in the woods I heard a god awful growl. Then came the coyote out into the field. I thought it was a cow or something crazy. I know it wasnt the coyote.

i've heard the snort wheeze quite a bit, but never a growl. i can do a decent enough copy of both with my voice, so the schysters won't get any of my$$$$

I think I'd rather take the "Deer View Mirror" and a "Cough Silencer" with me than get caught by any of my friends with a Buck Growl. What will they come out with next year?

I heard a growl about 3 years ago. Small buck pushing around a doe, he pushed her right up under my treestand and then just stood and growled at her. It took about 3-4 minutes but a really BIG eight (think small elk) came busting in to see what was up. I've been using the call since then, it's only been a couple years but my impression is that it works about as well as any other call. I can usually get any small buck I want into range (if I don't scare him off), but the better bucks are hit and miss. Sometimes they're interested...sometimes they're not. I've been doing it with a grunt call or my voice, so I have no experience with the new call.

Not rying to hijack this post or anything, but it seems like people aren't crazy about the Drury's and I wonder why? I've never met the guys but their videos were sure helpful when I first started bowhunting back in the day. People can PM me why there are issues with these guys so we don't start a bashing forum again.
Anyway back to the post...I never hear these vocalizations until a call comes out and then the next year I hear them. I thought the snort wheeze thing was a joke until I heard it three different times last year. Maybe I'm just not listening to the right things?

I've heard bucks "growl" out in the timberr just once, this call mimics it pretty darn well. I also think that on about any grunt call you can make the same sound, at least close enough that deer will recognize the sound.

I haver heard a buck "growl", but even in watcing the video I don't think the call sounds like the deer they have on film. In fact, that deer sounded much deeper and more like a gorilla.

GOld tip,
Very small minority don't like the Drurys. Don't worry about it.

Gee thanks Iowa1, I'll stop worrying right now!

I'll let you all know if mine works for me. Also I don't personally know the Drury's or any of the crew but really enjoy their videos.
