New law in effect?

This has nothing to do with hunting HOWEVER it effects all of us. The U.S. Supreme Court has ruled in favor of Eminent Domain. This allows cities and states to claim your land for public use. Now they can bulldoze your home in order to put up a shopping mall or hotel. It makes me real happy to be represented so well by the powers that be. This just shows what rights we have and how money has such a influence.

I believe that it is still each states choice in the matter. It will definately lead to problems. Pretty sad day I think.
 
A few States have laws prohibiting this. I wonder what Iowa has? If we do not, is another topic to write our Reps about.
 
Ask any landowner along the "Avenue of the Saints" on what happens if your land is needed. They make an offer at fair market value and if you don't accept...well..don't think they will divert a 4 lane highway around your house or property. I'm not sure if it the same law or not, but I believe it falls under the heading of "for the better need of society" and they can get what they need.
 
I read something about this and I believe it was the counties that could seize property, thats worse than the state having that power. Theres lots of crooked people in local governments.
 
This practice has been around forever. Condemnation laws do not alway seem fair but they call it progress. The new loop around the southside of DM took alot of property cheap in the first leg and as they went south and west the prices kept going up. Seemed like the early folks got hosed to me.
 
Just wait & see what happens when county Govt sees a beaver-flooded field in the fall & the geese are making a pit-stop. Looks like a great place for a wetlands project?
Or what about the guy that has a few acres of woods near an already existing public hunting area?
I hate to say it, but in some parts of the country - some landowner will defend his property until the death.
This was not a wise decision of the courts.
 
Ironwood- I think the later properties were worth more because they had a nice new road leading to them.

That loop or the avenue of the saints (at least to me) is a whole different issue than taking property for a private developer.
 
In Connecticut they are taking peoples house in order for a private Mall to be built. The town said it would benefit everyone. You think you guys have it bad....try to find a piece of property out here to hunt. Don't let me forget the average house price for a new 2500 square foot home is around 400 to 500 thousand. you can pick up a cheap 1200 square foot ranch for around 250 thousand.
