I just wanted to say hi! I just moved to Iowa and am a little nervous about the hunting transition........any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Not sure what you mean by "transition"...their is a "legal" transition that you must comply with before you can purchase a license.....proof of residency type stuff.....if you mean "transition" from how you hunted deer in your former state to how you might hunt deer in Iowa than there might be some differences, Ex: different strategies, techniques that may be more or less successful in Iowa vs. your former state........Welcome to an incredible place to enjoy the outdoors....hope you begin to make some great memories........if you can be more specific with your question you may get a few more replies.

Sorry...

I meant the transition from hunting in Ohio. Big woods with agriculture! I dont really know anyone in Iowa so I have to start all over in finding quality ground to hunt. Any advise would be much appreciated. I do have a lead on some ground in Appanoose County, not sure how good of a county that is. I know SE Iowa seems to be the better place as far as numbers are concerned. I am here to hopefully make some friends and gather in as much knowledge as possible.....

Welcome to Iowa Whitetail. Appanoose County is a good county. Which county are you living in now?

Welcome aboard. Start knockin on doors and try to seek out some other hunters in the area. Good luck!

Welcome to IW! But I wouldn't ask advice from any of these guys here...They know NOTHING about hunting whitetails!:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Seriously, though, I've learned more about whitetail hunting tactics in Iowa (and in general) and the gear to use/avoid from these guys than anywhere else. I've learned enough that I'm able to take some of that and apply it to elk, mule deer, and Coue's whitetail out here in AZ! Like JakeWym said, you can still knock on doors in Iowa and be greeted with a smile and the occasional yes!
