New Old Bow

As I was sitting around the house this morning still kicking myself for missing a turkey yesterday, I remembered an old longbow I had out in the garage. I grabbed it from the rafters where it had been for 25 years and decided I'd make a string for it. After doing that I went nuts and removed the old, tired finish and gave it some new coats of tung oil and a new wrapped grip.
Off I headed to shoot my "NEW" bow. I was afraid to come to full draw the first five arrows and my scattered group showed it. Decided the heck with it and if it was going to blow up it was a fitting end to this old girl. Came to full draw the next five arrows and slapped them around some. I was quite impressed with how it shot and the quietness of the bow. I shot about 50 arrows total and so far so good.

I now have another toy to play with.

Not quite the high tech stuff we are used to here, but fun non the less.

Nice, Jay. That looks a lot like the old longbow that I found in an antique store (made by Woodcraft Equpiment in Independence, Missouri). They are fun to shoot.

Good looking old bow Jay, it looks like the turkeys are in trouble.

I'm on a mission now.

That bow is a bit light for hunting but I have another. Just got done stringing her up and it's a heavier pull.
I'm going to wrap the handle yet tonight and shoot it in the next couple days.
It's pretty cool as it's autographed by Leonard Lee Rue III.

I've always wanted a recurve just to practive with and I think it would be a blast to shoot! Then when I got good enough I would put down the compound and step up to traditional, just another thing I have on my to do list!!

Nice looking bow. Now you must become very cautious or you will begin looking at all the trees in the back yard and planning to build your own stickbow. If you take the plundge be advised it is a long trip, but boy what a HOOT.

That's not a problem. Since I was shooting archery back in B.C......... "Before compounds"

I know what it feels like. I'm just looking forward to it again.
I've been playing around making the switch back to traditional gear for several years. I'm finally feeling the transformation is complete.
I've read up on building bows, but to be quite honest, I'll stick to antler repair.
