Stand locations, opinions

Here is a new property I got permission to hunt this year. I have put two stand in there so far. I tried to described everything in the picture. Let me know what you think and where else you might put some stands. I have seen some good deer on the property from the Highway as the property sets on a ridge and runs down toward the highway. The blue is a creek bed that is dried up and the deer use it as a travel way. To the south of the stand in the timber is a thick section of pine trees.

Looks like a pretty narrow section of timber. Id be set up near where those fingers come into the timber and have a stand near the pine trees. That's gonna be tuff to hunt though with a north wind.. Can't enlarge the pic, so I'm just going off the thumbnail...

Thank You. Had a great sit tonight on the stand right on the end of the finger. Saw my first buck chasing a doe. Was dead until 6:30 and then it started! 135 inch, 8pt. (very nice deer).

With the dry conditions, I would investigate the narrow area N of the stand you sat tonight (near the circular pond or water hole). I believe any area with water is a + this season with the ultra dry conditions. It is a nice narrow area/funnel and you could set up on either side of the water hole for a morning or mid-day hunt. Access would be easy from the N for a S wind and the deer would not see you accessing the timber (assuming they are feeding in the beans). I wouldn't let the the close proximity to the road deter you from checking the spot out as sometimes the bucks are closer to us than you think.

The other spot I see is on the NE corner of the beans where the W-E timber has a finger going to the S (the L finger assuming it connects to the creek bottom on the S edge of the photo).

+1 on the narrow area to the North of the pond. You might also set up where the W-E timbers narrows just below where you wrote the word HIGHWAY. If you get a North wind, it will blow your scent right into the field but it looks as if there is a house nearby and if your scent is diluted enough they will just assume it is coming from there. I have used this strategy before on my own property. If you have a South wind then it will be easy to set up there, but on a South wind I think I would be by the pond.

Thanks for the suggestions I think I will definitely try and put a stand in by the pond. The timber section that runs East and West also has a creek bed in it with a steep bank that they have to come up to get into the bean field.

Last night, was an exciting hunt. The stand I hunted last night (on the finger) has a great view except for the far southeast corner of the bean field. With just a few moments left of light that is where the hot doe and two bucks came running from.

Ok guys, would appreciate some opinions on my primary family farm. The stand by the creek at the bottom of a ridge was VERY productive. I had two encounters with bucks in the 140-160 range. The 140 at 10 yards, but decided to hold off. The bigger buck never crossed the creek. So, with a SW wind, I think this was/should be very good (was my first sit last weekend).

I want to put a stand a bit farther and wanted your opinions. The field to the North that I cut off is a bean field, want to get a stand for evening sits. The ponds in the photo set up on a ridge and it is extremely thick just to the East of the ponds as well. Want to put a stand in the red box, every thing that appears to be open is CRP so very high and thick, some ankle high.

Give me some feedback!

maybe try moving your stand on the primary farm to where the N is in "stand" to get a better pinch point...about a inch to the left of your stand looks like a good area too...as well as southend of the tiny field

keep that stand

If you saw a 140 and 160 inch buck both fairly close, I would keep sitting in that stand, around November 3-7th and you will probably get a shot.

Good luck!

No such thing as "to thick" imo...

I get your point, just think it serves much better as a bedding area and would rather leave it undisturbed and stay to the edges. That section of woods is literally, the thickets gnarliest stuff I have been in. Overgrown every thing and I swear every type of thorn bush/weed in there.
