New Pup!

Went and picked up my new pup (Jake) yesterday. Here are a couple of pics of him. He is a Black and white ticked German Shorthair. Between my 6 week old son and 6 week old pup I don't know how much bow hunting I'll get done this year.

I'm very excited to have them both though.

That is a great looking pup,...I love shorthairs.

Is it really black? I've seen some with real dark liver color but never black.

You have your hands full now...

Ghost,
Yeah its black. The coloring comes from his father who is 100% german blood. His father is pretty much completely black. That was one of the reasons I went with Brad Button the breeder was for the black dog. I just thought it was so cool when I saw him. Brad and his wife are great people to buy a pup from.

Yeah Limb,
This morning was living hell... I had to take Carter to the babysitter (first day) cause the wife had to leave for work early (first day back) the kid was crying the dog was crying and I was wondering what I got my self into but hopefully things will change.

Great looking dog! I have never been the shorthair kinda guy but my uncle loves them for pheasant hunting. My dad and I go with brittany's but it's just an opinion thing. That is a really cool look'n pup, with very distinct markings! They say they are never to young to start learning....Have you ever heard this?

Sureshot,
I believe they are learning from the time they are born.... This pup amazes me, he is fetching his favorite toy and bringing it back to me 90% of the time already. I think the big difference with how soon they start putting what they've learned this early on is how they were raised the first six weeks at the breeders kennel... the guy I bought him from has a couple of kids that I'm sure were playing with him and got him use to people. Unlike my last shorthair who had pretty much only puppy contact for the first six weeks. It's kind of like a pre prep for getting it ready for the new owner in my opinion. Thanks everybody for the comments

Cool pup! I'm partial to the black & white shorthairs too - have a 5 year old male (also due to a german sire). Last year he fathered a litter with a liver & white female and had 5 B&W and 4 L&W pups so, naturally, I had to keep another B&W pup (female this time)

letemwalk,
I don't think I'll ever have anything but black and white, I was in awe when I saw the first one and had the "I've got to have one of those" expressions.
