New Tires...

Well, the truck is in need of some new tires. Just wondering what everyone uses, or recommends. I need something to get me up and down a level C road, through a couple fields, and also down the highway no problem. I do a lot of highway travel.

I've had Wild Country, and currently have Mastercraft Courser on. Didn't really like either of them. As money is an object(don't want to spend $300 a tire), I want to get something that will be better than what I've had.

Any suggestions?

That's a no brainer BFG AT. 60,000 mile tires if rotated timely. I have over 40,000 on my BFG MT, still going strong.

Long life awsome tires , made for the rock roads and still are quiet on the highway....have to go with Hankooks as the hands down winner.

BFG AT KO. Good all around tire. Won't clean mud as well as the MTs but with the siping and compund they are great on ice and snow and last 50-60K or more.

BFG AT KO's on my Mopar.

25k miles on this set and they are wearing like iron.

I've also run the MT's before on my Jeep...the AT's are a lot quieter going down interstate! Both are awesome. The AT's are great in the snow and slush. My truck came with junk Wild Country's and I used to have to put it in 4wd in town if the plows hadn't been out. The BFG's have eliminated that for two winters now.

Hankooks are also a good tire if you drive a lot of gravel...as stated above.

Bridgestone's high end AT tire is also very good from what I've seen, but I dont' think as much bang for the buck as the BFG's.

Not a big fan of the brand but Goodyear MTR's are also a very nice tread.

If you drive much gravel stay away from the bridgestone's. I just replaced them on my 04 Chevy. They lasted under 30,000. I live on gravel, but I only have about 1.5 miles until I hit pavement.
I would look at Firestone Destination AT's. I put them on my wife's Jeep. They look good and are a super quiet ride.

I like anything made by Interco Super Swamper. I've had Thornbirds. A pretty good tire for the highway & better for the field, not very noisy, great sidewall strength. I now have Super Swamper TSL/SX on my S-15. Not much for the highway, great in the field, outstanding sidewalls & noisy. I plan to try the Boggers next. I love the noise

Ive got the BFG AT's on my truck and for all around toughness and street driving I love them. I've never got stuck with them.
The two major downsides I saw is I lost about a mile per gallon by putting them on and the are expensive as hell. especially if you have 17 inch rims like i hve.

Talltines it is funny you say that, as my BFG MT wear down my gas mileage keeps going up. I lost 2 MPG when I put them on.

Beware of the Swamper Boggers they only get about 5,000 on the highway before they are spent.

I'm pricing BFG A/T as we speak. I drive mostly highway(80 miles a day roundtrip to work), Alot of gravel and sloppy mud roads during hunting. Also, I pull a 24' camper. Hopefully these tires will do the job.

Like I said, I was not happy with the last 2 sets I've had.

How will these hold up to ALOT of highway driving?

I've got Uniroyal's, which are made by BFG, and I'm not sure difference in rubber compound, but mine are almost shot after driving for a year on gravel down here. Granted, I'm out on gravel and offroad almost everyday, but they're are litterally chunks missing out of my tred pattern.

Anyone have any recommendations? I'm driving a relatively light truck (tacoma), but they are taking a beating!

I replaced my factory Goodyears on the Dakota at 50,000. Went to Wally World got another set of Goodyear- these were Tracker IIs. They seem like a good tire, not sure they are wearing as well as the first but I am driving more gravel now. I have had BFG in the past- one set was great, the other sucked.

The Hankooks on pavement gravel mix for me last approx 50-60k miles for me, All of the farmers around here swear by them, i also noticed my rate of getting flat tires went way down after getting them.

If you want a great tire without spending a bunch of $$$, check out the Durango Radial XTR. I've had a set on my 'Yota for two years. 20,000 and you can't hardly tell they've worn at all, and that's including 50% gravel road driving. They are more aggressive than the BFG AT TKO's and wear almost as well. I only ran a 15R 235, the larger tire might have more space between the lugs, which can be good and bad.

Lone Wolf, check these out, they work great on my toyota. Also, how much tire pressure do you run in the back tires? As light as my truck is I only run a little over 20 lbs. That'll keep the middle of the tire from wearing too fast. Of course, I've got an older model truck, the new tacomas are almost the size of a fullsize truck.

I like the Hankooks's. I've got about 15 miles of gravel every day, that's just going to work and back, not counting the poking around near home. They're the best I've found yet.
