New to food plots

Planted a clover plot for the 1st time and was wondering how often or when to mow it as well as how short to cut it? Any advice would be appreciated.

My approach would be to mow it after it has started flowering. It seems that for most plants, once they flower, they die back, figuring their job is done. Cut it when it flowers and it should come back to try again. No need to mow it to the ground either, just knock the top off.

If weeds arent a problem, I try to mow mine down to 4-6 inches usually twice a year (beginning of June and beginning of September). Maybe a third time in the summer if we get a lot of rain.

Do not think of mowing right now. 2 things you need to deal with, look how good it looks before hunting season.... if dead or bad, convert to something different. If ok, great. then, how do you make it top notch for next year?... Soil sample, apply proper fert & lime and I rarely see a situation where you wouldn't wanna frost seed more. If clover is all you want, you're done. If you get caught up in food plots & making a proper management plan, you'll need to think rotation, read dbltree link & join the club of habitat-rehab needing folks.
