hello, i will be moving to oskaloosa in september and im a die hard bow hunter so can anyone fill me in on the things i need to know. also how is the public land around there?

Since you will be arriving close to the season opener, make sure you get your drivers licence the day you arrive. IA law reads you have to physically reside in the state for 30 days prior to obtaining a resident hunting license.

As far as the area???? It looks pretty good around there and on south. Welcome to the state and good luck this fall

Welcome to the site, and welcome to IA. Shredder make's a good point about the residency. Might not be a bad idea to come up and try and obtain your license in advance of the opener. I'm not sure if it requires you have a current residence in IA, but it might be worth checking into.

This site will give you a good over view of the area. Also I would try and get a Sportsmans Atlas, Wally World ussually has them or try sportsmansatlas.com or 1800-568-8334. These should all help you get started. Don't forget to join the PMA conference here to be in on the Big Buck contest for 2006.

Hey Brother, welcome! Where are you moving from? I recently moved to S.E. Iowa just this past September. If you are willing to do it, you can gain access to alot of ground if you are willing to ask. If you aren't willing to ask, you'll never know!

Oh, another thing. If you get a non-resident license, they will not let you transfer it once you are a resident (30 day thing). They are non-transferable, so you have to use them in the zone you were drawn in. I'm not sure if you even have any points or not, but just a word to the wise.

I am from oskaloosa originally. A place that they just opened for doe only is Lake Keomah State park. Really good hunting. Then if you dont mind the drive to Knoxville area (around 30-45 min depending on what side of the lake) there is the lake Red Rock area and tons of public access there. That area is all my 2 cousins hunt and they never see anyone when hunting. You might want to try going south on 163 and in between Osky and Eddyville is some real good hunting. Like Lone Wolf said. You never know if you dont ask. Well good luck on your quest. Talk to the DNR down there, his name is Mike Gipple, really nice guy, maybe he could help you out. If i think of anything else and ill do some calling around for you. You can PM me if any ?'s.
