The pilot public hunting access program - Iowa Management and Access Program (IMAP) was approved yesterday and will become affective in early June. We will have private land open for public hunting starting this fall through the pilot program being funded through the USDA grant Voluntary Public Access - Habitat Incentive Program and the buffer initiative of the Habitat Stamp. The program will be primarily delivered by the private lands program and patrolled like WMA's by the CO's. The PLP staff will be receiving training on the program soon but in the mean time if you have questions let me know.

We will be working with our Communications staff to develop multiple marketing strategies including targeting landowners to let them know it is a program available to them, targeting hunters to let them know that the sites are available as well as managing the expectation of what that will look like during the pilot stages of this program, and general marketing to allow Iowans to understand the overall value of such a program.

Thank you to the planning committee for your help in getting us to this point. In particular thank you to Todd Bogenschutz, Greg Schmitt and Tamara Mullen for their response to all the last minute requests due to opposition to the access program.
