I have never planted Turnips before. Only Radish and Rape . Figure won't do rape anymore as deer do not seem to care for it. They love Radish though. I planted that last week of July last year. They got big but deer loved em anyway right thru the fall. I know Aug is probably best like first week, but been my experience rains seem to dwindle come Aug. Coarse this year who can tell the way downpours have been going? On that subject some here might say,"Hey Loneranger not heard much otta you about how dry it is". You are correct. Got 6 inches in May 5 in June and 3 in just the past week. A lot more I know in other spots especially in MO. Like 18 inches for June in Kirksville!!! Some would say why is this happening this Summer...Well two things,,,,For 1, the active Jet Streams have been slow to head North of Iowa and MO this Summer hanging around I-80 and south. Also the Gulf of Mexico has been Wide Open last few Months. Some yrs it is capped and limited moisture flows north. With the Heat Dome building into our neck of the woods now,,the Widespread heavy rains may become more scattered with the activity farther north. But,,Ya never know about the Weather? I did get one area rotto tilled before the last 2 inch rain. Other spots are just brown from roundup,,waiting to be tilled. If Aug comes and ground is still too wet,,heck may just be able to scratch seed into killed weed bed,,as some have suggested?
