My school owns land pretty close to our school.. and i lift every monday, wednesday, and friday! When i come out of the weightroom and come to look at the field and there are deer pouring out of that field! BUT... the school wont allow anyone to hunt it! my coach usually comes out of the weightroom and asks that the heck im doin standin outside in the cold instead of inside! well i love to watch the deer and dream of hunting there! I wish i could convince the school to allow certain people to bowhunt! no gun.. but bowhunt... soon enough.. they are gunna become a hazard to the kids who drive! any suggestions on how i could convince them to let a few guys bowhunt to make it not as hazardous as it already is... i was thinkin all deer killed can go to a locker to the HUSH foundation! when its season of course! and suggestions would help! thanx guys/gals!

One thing is for sure, at least you got somewhere to look for sheds

I kind of doubt, with today's school laws and restrictions, that any kind of weapon could be used there.

Goodluck in whatever you try.

I believe that all schools have a no weapons policy anywhere on school grounds, not even shells for your gun are allowed. Anyone in possion of these is automatically suspended and can be expelled from school. (Can't even have a toy gun in a school play) So I think you may be out of luck for hunting there, but as liv said, go and look for some sheds!

The days are long gone when you could take a gun to school to show your teacher and friends. I even took them to shop class to refinish.

They have been trying to get this passed at the scott community college in bettendorf. they have so many freaking deer around that place its crazy but the college owns the land and wont let anyone hunt it. Good luck, hope you can figure something out.

If you had my shop teacher it would of def. been a class assignment. I dunno how many stocks we refinished, stands we built, skulls we boiled, and big buck contests we had. Atleast find the sheds.

[/ QUOTE ]I think they did open up a hunt there this past year. Thought I heard something about it, not for sure though.

My wifes aunt and uncle live in Riverdale over there and said that they hadn't openned it yet but either way everytime I am there visiting we see deer everywhere. Would love to bow hunt it except for they are deer lovers

Check with your FFA Advisor to see if he has any ideas. Through our PF chapter we work with local FFA groups to sponsor trap shoots and trap/skeet teams. Our school district recently started an outdoor classroom on a pond and allows fishing. Another school in the area has a Natural Resources class where the kids learn sound conservation practices and hosts a pheasant hunt. Hunting traditions and outdoor heritage is important to future farmers and landowners and if you play your cards right you might just be able to swing this. Good luck getting the school to consider this. Let us know who this goes.

That is a good idea fishorhunt. If you can persuade your school that the deer are gonna go to hush and to a good cause, surely your FFA supervisor. ag teacher should support it. This could go in your favor if you play it right. And hopefully there aren't any tree huggers.

The college hired an outfit called Christman's hunting service to bowhunt around the campus. I remember seeing something in the QC Times about how many they killed, but now can't find it on their website. I do remember that they were pretty successful.

Im really hopin i could persuade them to let a few people hunt.. ive already talked to the FFA (ag teacher) and he said he would LOVE for people to hunt there... its just a matter of havin the school allow us to hunt! i would love to take this to the school board next fall or perhaps this spring... ill keep you guys updated.. maybe sometime.. me and my coach will walk through there and ill take sum pictures of the amounts of deer in that area to see what your reactions are to the amount of em! ill keep you guys updated!

Bowhunter, If you are going to go to the schoolboard with this, do it, ASAP. Schoolboards are known for taking a long time to decide anything. Also when you go, prepare a good speech to read to them with the pros (not just "Let Me HUNT!!) and cons. The better you sound, the better they will take it. Also, tell them to think it over, that it doesn't have to be an instant decision, you'll sometimes get better results. Good Luck!!

You will have to make sure to bring up a way to select the people, and prolly have to have everyone pass a shooting test, that way you can say the chance of cripples would be hopefully 0
