Not sure what to think

More of a statement than a question-

Hunted today, was in the stand by 6:15am made it til 1:00 or so. Stand is 40yds into timber with view of a picked corn field. Anyway had deer up and moving (17). 16 were doe (mature to yearlings) and one spike. The deer seemed to move in groups of 4-5 mill around and occasionally bed except the spike which was alone but just milling around and walking slowly. They came from all directions on me which is a first. I was never really winded to the point that they bolted on me, in fact had 3 different bed within 15yds. None of the 16 doe had a trailer buck? Movement pretty much halted at 9:30 but I was convinced they'd be on their feet. I was pretty cold by 1 so got down. Drove an hr home driving slow on gravels and didn't one deer on their feet??

I have to think this will be a typical hunt. All about seeing a random buck on his feet or being in the right place at the right time with one final doe in heat.

I agree with the typical statement. Just frustrating yr. I never ran into that magic wk or so this yr. never saw much for chasing, sparing, or breeding. I think it was more scattered throughout the last several weeks. Maybe a great day or two a week. I haven't been lucky enough to have a lot time during the week, basically a fri-Sun hunter with just a few weekdays mixed in. I'm sure it happened, just not with me there.

I saw 4 deer tonight.. I had a dink chase a young doe around. Then later had big 3 year old buck (body wise) come in and pursue the same young doe.. I was going to take the 3 year old buck and just end this miserable season but it didn't work out... I have sat at this particular property for 4 days this week and tonight was the best.. So, don't give up. I'd definitely be out this weekend till early next week..

I am a teacher, you are preaching to the choir! I am a weekend only hunter accept for a couple 3 day weekends, and I am working on my 3rd year of eating my tag (always shoot a doe at the end to at least tag something).

The magical week is long gone, the norm is a trickle rut. Yes a week will still exist where as more does are bread but a "traditional" rut doesn't exist anymore

Experienced the same thing this evening. Saw more does tonight than the previous two weeks combined! Lots of skittish behavior and small bucks cruising around. No shooters to be had. Each doe, or group of does that went by had me convinced I would eventually see something mature. Strange. Have yet to see any chasing, etc.
