Not too many of these critters in Iowa.

I caught these young otter on the bank of my creek with a homebrew Olympus setup on a scrape. Any of my Sony setups would have never turned on fast enough.

That's awesome. There have been a few spotted up in our neck of the woods by a couple friends that have been trapping.

Yeah; that's the down side of using a 2 mega-pixel camera instead of a 4.1 like the Sony DSC-P41. I had to crop just the right side of that picture, as they were almost gone before the camera went off. Here is an action picture with a Sony at close range on Oct. 30th. Of course this was coming towards the camera.

There are quite a few on the Wapsipinicon river. I have had friends that trap and they caught 3-4 every year. They had to turn them over to the game warden.

I have a stand setup next to a river and can watch otters play and fish or watch a family of eagles fly in and out of thier nest right across the river.

It's one of my favorite stands.....

was duck hunting on the cedar river south of osage last year and had 5 swim into the decoys, very fun to watch, but i couldnt help think what their fur was worth

Well, your friends don't have to give them to the wardens this year. The quota is 2 a piece until 400 are caught or season ends Jan. 31st.

Looks like there is a third otter at the right of the pic.Cool pics.

311 otters turned in so far as of tonight, 515-281-5918 for updates.

Once the quota is reached there's a 72 hour grace period, after that any otters caught have to be released (if possible) or turned over to the DNR.
