By daylight on the morning of November 6, I already had deer around my stand. I had 2 small bucks within 50 yards of my tree doing their best to impress the does that were making their way to bed. At about 7:50, I noticed a doe making her way through the timber down a ridge right to my stand. She had a nice buck in tow and it didn't take me long to decide that he was a shooter. The doe came 30 yards right of my tree, and the buck left her trail to go run off one of the smaller bucks that had grunted at him while he made his way through the timber. He skirted my tree at 70 yards and started beating on a brush pile trying to intimidate the small buck. The little buck took off, and the 8 pointer I had been watching started to head straight away from my tree. I grabbed the buck roar, made a few aggressive grunts, and he did a 180 making his way back in my direction. He got to 40 yards and I drew, only to see that he was going to come in for a closer look. He stopped to work a scrape 20 yards from my Lone Wolf, turned sideways in the scrape, and I let him have it. He turned to run and only made it about 35 yards before he fell. Not the biggest buck in the timber, but I couldn't be happier.
Here is the arrow stuck in the ground just past the scrape.
And a pic with the landowner. Also my brother. Thanks Curtis!
After going to take my first glance, I started to pack up my gear. Just as I had gotten my Lone Wolf attached to my pack, I looked up to see a nice young 12 pointer heading my way. So, I just leaned back against the tree and started taking pics with my phone. It is a buck that we have numerous trail cam pics of. What a morning. Here is one of the pics at 15 yards.
