Off topic - Digital Cameras

Shed Head!!!
I know this is kinda off topic but I am in the market to buy a new digital camera (not a trail cam). I have been looking and get dizzy at all of the different ones on the market.

What do you recommend I buy??? I want to spend between $200 & $300....

Thanks in advance

What megapixel do you want? What are you going to use it for? Just some questons that will help you find the best quality for the money

I tend to prefer the sony cameras just because I am more familiar with them and the ease of use. I bought my wife the DSC-P93 which is a 5.1 MP camera with a zoom and it works out well.

Kansasbowhunter,

Just bought a new Sony Cyber-shot 5.1 meg. At Best Buy. This model (dsc-p100) has it's own battery pack that lasts forever. I'm very happy with it, and easy to use. I spent about $340 for everything. I've done the cheap vivitars for $100 and was really disappointed in battery life. Hope this helps.

Thanks Iowabruce...

Shredder, I am not sure about what Megapixels I need. I want a good camera that will take quality pictures. Both of my boys are very active in sports and I want to take good pictures of them. I also want to have it in the field when I am hunting.... I want it to be simple to use and durable....

To say the least, I am camera ignorant.

The one Iowabruce mentioned is a nice camera...takes wonderful pics...I opted out for the P93 sony as it had the same mega pixel (5.1) which is high quality but was about 40-50 bucks cheaper. I think I spent about 275-300 on that camera and it takes nice pics. Either one would be my recommendation if you are looking at the Sony cameras

I got a 4 mega pix samsung at sears for under $200.00 First digital camera and am still learning...

If you have a Sam's Club nearby they have a fantastic 5 MP Kodak with an Easy Share 6000 Docking station included for $299.00. The docking station is a charger and has a one button download to your PC. It is awesome. We bought one for a gift for our Iowa hunting family this year and they love it. It has a 32 MB internal memory and it takes the SD memory card if you want to add one. I would have to say that it is the most user friendly digital camera I have seen yet. I can't remember the model number(it's a four digit number starting with a 7) but it's the one that's a light blue color.

I ended up buying a Sony DSC-W1 Cyber Shot. It is 5.1 meg and has a Carl Zeis lens. I hope to post some new pics soon!!! Thanks for everyones input...

I have had my Sony DSC-S70 for about 4.5 years. It is a 3.3megapixel camera and takes wonderful pictures.
If I were to buy a new point and shoot it would be the Sony DSC-W1 and if I were to buy a Digital SLR it would be a Canon EOS 20D.

You guys/gals are lucky I paid about $800 for my camera back when it was new now you can get a Canon SLR Digital Rebel for the same price.
