Been slow posting my first archery kill, was waiting on friend to email me the pics he still hasn't. So here goes the story.
I didn't catch the time to roost the birds sunday night, so I went to my known turkey location. I hooted once and got a response, so I set up, unfortunately I went to hid a bit to close to the roost tree, dang echoes. Off the bird went, oh well still not really flydown time, so I got comfortable, no blind. Had a few responses to my calling but nothing coming to me. Around 7:15 I seen a strutting tom about 250 yds out, so I put a sneak on em, had two hens 25 yards away feeding seen two toms. Well I seen two hens but one of the other 20 or so seen me. Started puttin, and off to the east they went, not in a big hurry but not comfortable there anymore. well I figured maybe try to cut them off, nah, wait take my time getting the deeks and come again tues. Well I didn't wait long enough, I came over the hill and a few birds went down the hill away from me, darnit, wait though one bird stayed, humm couldn't tell rather a hen or tom, still had my call in my mouth so. Cool it is a tom, oh o I'm standing 75 yds away in a chopped field.......Ahh cooperation he wnet down the hill, so I take off running dive under the fence get about 7 yds from hill droppping off, make another call ooo right made him strut I could see the top of his tail. Okay so decide to take a chance and draw stand up slowly, nope by time I got to full draw lonely boy decide to come look for his sexy hen, hehe, couldn't even see his wing so I popped him right abave the crop in the neck, dropped like a box of rocks. Didn't check the weight but he's ready for the fryer at 15lbs, 9.5" beard, 1.25 spurs, I'll take it for my first bow kill, fun and exciting hunt, no more shotgun turkeys for me. Only down fall was the granddaddy tomzilla that was with him, he dwarfed the other birds and wasn't as much contrasting in color either, more browns and greys, but he strutted so shouldn't be a bearded him, I'm guessin a 12" beard. I'll let you know tommorow since I'm gonna get him in the morn....I hope. Sorry for the long post but I'm still excited over the hunt.
