I made it back to my old stompin grounds
this last weekend. The north end of our place has a 10 acre patch of timber which always holds a nice bird. Friday ended with tight lipped toms following the hens away from the call. However Saturday was much better. Saturday morning was very wendy. The tom gobbled twice in the tree and that was it. About 6:40 he dropped out of the tree, and stayed in the heavy cover. At about 6:50 the hens flew down and landed about 25 yards out. Things are looking Better!! Around 6:55 he came out of the tall cover in full strut. And at 7:00 he was in my hand and we were headed back to the truck. The bird weighed 21 lbs. That's big in Oklahoma. It had a 10 1/2 inch beard and 1 1/4 spurs. I will post some pics when I get it figured out.
