Thinkin Rut

PMA Member
We've been getting pics of this buck the last few years. We have never seen him in the flesh and he always leaves before rut...hoping that changes.

As far as we can tell this is him in 2013

2014 he added a beam...we did find his left side in the spring

2015 came and wasn't surprised he lost his DMB. He gained the cut on his left ear

The first July 2016 pic he seemed to have been in decline.

He really finished strong...hope he changes his habits

Sweet buck, hope he sticks around this year. I'm always amazed at how much their antlers can change from year to year. Cool stuff.

Sweet deer! It would be interesting to put a tracking device on some bucks just to see where they heck they go!

What causes him to leave every year?
This is a fairly small piece of ground and I would guess that he is on the outer edge of his core area. It wouldn't shock me if he showed his face during the rut but I wouldn't want to be hunting him exclusively.

Great old deer...Hope you get a shot at him. I don't think that 2013 buck is him though.

I don't think that 2013 buck is him though.

We believe the buck in the 2014 pic is 4. On this piece of ground we usually don't see a 4 year old buck show up out of no where for the summer...he was there at 3. We just went through our pool of 3 year olds and came up with the 2013 pic as the most likely candidate. A difficult task transforming the way he does and going from 3 to 4. I would not bet the farm on it either but then again, without the notch in his ear, I wouldn't bet the farm on the 2015 buck either. The plot twist would be if he was 3 in 2014.
