Ok I need some help This year is my first year bow hunting and I would like to get some scent covering clothes but holy smokes that stuff is expensive. In previous years I just sprayed scent killer on but I was muzzleloading or shotgun hunting so the deer usually weren't REAL close. I've seen a new product by scent lok they call a base layer that goes under your camo and is suppose to help eliminate scent. I can get a shirt and pants for under $150 will this work if I use my normal camo clothes but wear the scent lok underneath or do I have to buy the scent lok outer pants and coat also. Tell me what you think and also feel free to tell me what you use or would recommend I am all ears.

You can get by with the base layers if you practice scent elimination on your other clothes.

If you want to pick up the outer garments at more reasonable prices, check around in December and January. Many places (including online stones) deeply discount their Scent Lok. That's how I picked up mine last year. Got a Scent Lok Dakota jacket and pants for $60 each.

Save yourself the money and play the wind. I know its not always applicable, but if you can keep the wind in your favor, your chances of being smelled are less likely. Even with your scent lok suit you are not neccessarly going to be completely odorless.

I've read some very critical articles about scentlok and the equivalant clothing. Basically the carbon doesn't last long enough, and cannot easily be reactivated (needs very high temps - much more than your dryer or fabric can handle). So save your money. Start takin' chlorophyll pills, start a scent control regimen, and use scent elimination products religiously...oh, and ALWAYS mind the wind. It helps being 16 ft off the ground too

I can't tell you if carbon works or not but I do know what does. Wash your clothes in scent free soap. Wash your body in scent free soap before you get into your odor free clothes. Lastly I use undergarments with microbal (spelling?) technology. I personally like Ab-Scent. It is supper light weight and really does work. There are other brands like No Trace and one that Cabelas sells (I can't remember the name). Good luck!
