One heck of a rock

I have been driving past this many times. Everytime I head to southern iowa I drive past this beautiful rock and always wanted to take a picture of it. Well this weekend on my way home I stopped and took a picture. Actually had my camera on me. I am sure plenty of you have seen this rock and know where it is at. It is absolutely awesome. It usally changes a couple times a year if I remember right.

I drive by it as well going to hunt in southern Iowa. It is one of the coolest things I've ever seen. Makes me proud to be an American! God bless all those in the military and their families. For without their sacrifices we wouldn't have the freedoms we enjoy everyday.
 
I've seen many emails with that rock over the years with a different painting on it every year and I am always thouroughly amazed at the talent of the artist. It does make you feel proud to be an American. I've gotta get down that way and take a look at it in person. Where exactly is it??
 
The "Rock" is located at the Greenfield exit, just south of exit 86 on I-80 in SW Iowa - about 1-2 miles. I live in Adair which is west of there about 10 miles. Mr. Sorenson has been painting that rock for the last several years. The rock came from the nearby Schildberg's quarry. In the past it was just a bunch of grafiti from the local school kids. Nice to see the kids have let it go to a much better cause.

I grew up just a mile up the road from the rock.We used to paint it when we were in school as did many people.We kind of had "wars" with other schools by painting things on it.Once Mr. Sorensen started painting it depicting the war memorials all the horseplay paintings stopped.It really is a cool site to see in preson if you haevn't.
 
back in the day, one of my comments almost got the rock pushed into the quarry. definately put to better use now
