Opening day in Minnesota

Geez, what an opener! Business obligations kept me from going out this morning but I had plenty of time for the evening hunt. Settled into the stand about 5:45 pm and it wasn't long before a small buck came by. Things were looking up. And thats when it happened.., the worse thunder and lightening storm I've ever been in! It was incredible! Lightening striking all over and several that were way to close. I tried to stick it out but my nerves failed me after about an hour. I jumped out of the tree and headed for the corn field and back to my pickup. At least when in the corn I wasnt the tallest thing around, as I would have been out on the open prairie. It was quite an interesting night.
I'll try again tomorrow.

Hunted WI opener for about 30 min.in the morning and then got out of the tree when the monsoon and eletrical storm hit. Went to town got a soda and went back to me tree about an hour later once the storm went by. Sat to 11 am thinking something might move once the weather broke saw no deer but a lot of turkey's fluffin themselves trying to get dried off.

The evening hunt provided gale force winds in the 25-30 mph range. Needless to say, no deer were spotted today.

I made it out Sat morning and the rain wasn't too bad, but dang that wind!! Swaying side to side....I was being rocked to sleep. ha, ha That's the only chance I had to make it out. Oh well....still great being able to hunt again!!

We have had good weather here in the Nort' country. SO far the rain has only hit when we weren't in the stand. I have my 12-year old son with me trying to get his first deer. I also know where there is a nice bachelor group but I am leaving them alone for now.

We have been covered up in deer both of the last two evenings but nothing within range unless they were snorting at us fromdownwind. When we set up on one trail they use the other and vice-versa. Maybe tonight. Sure is nice to see his eyes light up when a deer steps out in the field though.

I tried a bit Friday night too but got chased out early. I wasn't totally prepared for the 3 day downpur that settled in and the temps never got above 38 all weekend, down to 28 this morning. Time to get out the winter clothes. Good luck this season Dan.
