OPINION ABOUT .22 PISTOLS

I am considering getting a .22 pistol and I am leaning more towards a Ruger revolver that shoots .22 longs and .22 mags. I was just wondering what everyone else thought.

Sounds like a good choice. I have the Browning Buckmark pistol and like it a lot but that ruger sounds like a good one to try out.

What may I ask are you planning on using a .22 pistol for, are you wanting it for home defense, to hunt small game, target shoot, or just plinking with it.

by far, it will be the funnest gun you will ever purchase. i have a browning buckmark, and have burnt well over 15000 rounds through it. the ruger single six is a top-notch gun, probably the finest .22 revolver on the market. no matter what you get, shoot the heck out of it, they are a blast

there is a gunshow coming up soon. go handle some pistols, and see what feels best. for hunting purposes, a 6 inch (minimum)barrel will give the best accuracy

if you want the all time clasic .22 pistol go for a colt woodsman. I have a ruger as well and love it.

Agree w/ Teeroy all the way around. Buckmark is favorite newer .22 autochucker and Ruger does make the best wheely .22 for the money. That said, the Colt Woodsman I inherited from my grandfather still the straightest shooting auto I own. The Colt is also a classy step back to years gone by.

I own the Browning Challanger III as well, I got it used. Its great for grouse hunting, alot of fun to shoot. Which ever pistol/revolver you purchase, it will likey be one of your favorite handguns. My father owned a Ruger 22, that was a sharp revolver.

I just saw in the Feb./March Petersen's Hunting magazine that Browning is coming out with a new hunters model in the Buck Mark series. It has what looks to be a Picatinny Rail on a bull type barrel. Gonna start saving my pennies.

I had a Colt Buntline with a magnum cylinder & never used it. Seemed like anything I wanted to use it for did just fine with the regular LR rounds. Ended up selling that one- bad mistake. Have had two Ruger autos- both shot well. Just bought a Berreta auto for plinking. Has rail built in for mounting a scope. Once I got it sighted in (it shot about 2 feet low from the box), it will really lay them in there. Revolvers have been thought "safer" by some but I always thought "safe" operation is the user- not the gun.

I have the Heritage Arms Rough Rider. I use it for trapping and havent had any problems with it. The price is right also. You can pick one up new for around $150 which includes a holster and a 22 mag cylinder. Dont let the low price scare ya, its a good shooter.
