Owl call

I see a lot of people use this call to locate birds before it's light. How good do the birds respond to these? Is it a 50/50 thing or is it better?

I've not yet experienced it yet but the word around town is they are 100% effective at the "Rendezvous".

They do really well. The one I have is a primos call..about 10 years old but it sounds about perfect. It is comparable to this

owl call

Learn to hoot with your voice. Alot louder to get that shock gobble. You really can't do it wrong either. I have heard some owls that I thought might be something waiting to kill me. Neat too when you get them to hoot back at your call. Seen mornings when you might have a whole valley of owls hooting followed by shock gobbles. Man I can't wait....

They work great at the IBA banquet as well.

I agree, learn it on your own, you will be much much louder and able to carry the call through more of the timber. After a few days of practice you will be a pro. The purchased calls are really soft, I have tried a couple of them at the stroes and they just can't produce the loudness that your mouth can.

Learning to use your voice takes some work but I've had tremendous success with it. I still carry an owl call at all times (Palmer's Grand National Champion Wood Hoot Tube) just in case I'm a little rusty though. This call seems to produce some decent volume, unlike some of the others.

The very first time I used one it worked the best. There were many different toms the responded. This year I'm going to use it again it sure does work.
