p41 hack

On my latest build I think I screwed up. After hacking the p41 I saw the servo was not long enough so I unhacked it. Was waiting to get another servo to complete the build. I put the cam back together and the flash would not work, so I took it apart again. I found nothing wrong so I put it back together, and the power light would flicker. Took it apart again,no problems evident. Put it back together and now it won't power up at all. Any ideas? Torn ribbon cable maybe? Although this is not apparent. Any body on here that can repair it for me? I need some help guys. I hate the thought of ruining a p41.

Dosent sound too good. Try the reset button and make sure the shutter ribbon cable is set in place correctly.

Sounds to me like your ribbon cable to the power button is bad or the SA isn't aligned properly. If you removed the SA; then i would use a magnifying glass and look at the ribbon cable of the power button. It doesn't happen often, but you can tear this ribbon removing and re-inserting it. If that's not the case; then i would look at the three fuses on the main board. You may have to bridge a fuse; if no continuity at the fuse.

Okay, heres the latest, I reinserted a S/A and jumped from the common to the power. Bingo, she powered up. Jumped from the shutter to the common, it flashes and shutters a pic. Still no green light at the power switch and the power button will not turn it on or off. Any suggestions? Please help if you can.

I have one that the power light wont work either. It sounds like the SA is aligned now but the Sony ribbon cable isn't. You may need to realign both again. Sometimes it can be a little tricky getting them both to work.

The best I can tell, the power on/off shutter block is bad. I rehacked and connected to the BG2 and was able to use it as a trail cam but not as a regular cam. I just have to use a pair of tweezers to jump across the power and common inside of the servo connector to turn on/off manually. I'm just thankful I did not fry a perfectly good cam. Thanks for all of your help everybody.

[/ QUOTE ]If you don't need to use the camera outside of the cam; you're good to go. Sounds to me like your power- shutter block is done for. You can order a new one from Sony for about $38 Plus shipping. Or you can look to by a parts camera that will power on. The shutter block isn't hard to change out, but i wouldn't bother unless i was able to get another for a good price.

Thanks CC, do you happen to know the sony parts number?

Thanks everybody for all of your help. I got my new shutter block this morning in the mail. After installation, I pressed the power button and everything works as it should. Thanks again, Jeff
