Paw paw trees

Does anyone have insight into how much deer like paw paw trees? I've heard some say the deer love them while others disagree. They appear easy to grow and produce fruit early so looking to try them out if they attract deer.

Deer eat mine down to the top of the tree tubes the first couple years then the trees put on enough growth to get above browse.

I would not say they are easy to grow, for me at least. They like plenty of moist soil and filtered sunlight for the first couple years.

Guys down in ks claim they like em & others say they don’t. I haven’t confirmed for myself yet. I’d try a handful for the fun of it regardless.

I had two up in the farmyard and they didn't live very long, might be a short lifespan on them? I have a friend who struggled with them in his yard as well.

The hazelnut bush close to mine got browsed into the mushroom shape.

They suckered hard for me (way down yonder in the paw paw patch?) and you need more than one for pollination. Didn't figure you'd only plant one but without knowing the sex, probably need to overkill the numbers to be sure.

I never got fruit like previous pictures in this thread and I had many apple trees nearby that the deer sought out. I planted a couple of apple trees away from the yard and the deer hit those. I won’t be planting more paw paws but that is just my bias.

I should have a pile of seeds (depending on fruit set/pollination) this fall if anyone wants to try growing some,.

The paw paws run thick on some city parks here in KS right off of bike trails for easy access.
