Paying Off My Debt

AZHunter

Iowa Boy At Heart
Back in August/September, I called up my buddy Wayne (Bowman) and asked him about entering into a friendly wager with his two kids (you remember the AWESOME bucks they harvested) with regards to my October/November hunt up there. I love getting kids excited about hunting and wanted to make something fun for them, especially since I've gotten to know them over the last few years. At first we talked about largest antlers and the loser would have to wear a hat and shirt of the opposing team (they are Hawkeyes and I'm a Cyclone) along with a sign proclaiming love for the other team. Wayne had a very good point in that he didn't want his kids getting hung up on antler size at their age, which is what I'm teaching my kids. So we settled on something very random: largest hoof measurement from tip of hoof to tip of dew claw and the picture had to be posted in a public forum. I have too many Hawks friends on FB that I trash talk with so I will NEVER post this picture there. I know there are several Hawks fans here, including people I like and respect, but we're all hunters here, so I overlook those other deficiencies! :D

The trash talking began shortly after my Clones beat the Hawks (you know you remember it). I sent Wayne a text asking him if it would be too much to tell Trenton "Go Cyclones!" for me. I found later, it was too much. Trenton wasn't happy with me! ;) He got his revenge the night he took that beautiful 8 pt in the youth season. He called me up to ask me what size Hawkeye hat I wear! Allyson, being the sweet young lady she is, stayed away from the trash talking, even with her beautiful 8 pt, but it was on between me and Trenton! I was fortunate to harvest a nice 10 pt on my first morning, but not before I made sure to tell Trenton that the Clones beat ranked Texas Tech and the Hawks lost!

I knew I was in trouble when one lone Clones fan enters into a friendly wager with 2 young Hawks fans, but, again, I wanted to make it fun for the kids and Trenton and Allyson are the ONLY 2 people I'll ever enter into a wager with those kinds of stakes. When I got to town, I told both kids that the formalities were out the door since we were in a wager and talking trash; therefore, it was ok to start calling me Brian (if it was ok with mom and dad) instead of "Mr. Wooldridge". After it was all said and done, Trenton and I pretty much tied on hoof measurement, but Allyson's buck came through. So my mom had to go find me a shirt and hat back there for me to fulfill my bet. I wish you all could have seen the look on my daughter's face when she saw the hat and shirt I had to wear. I seriously thought she was going to throw up! :D To ease the sting of having to wear these "things", my kids decided to help out last night and it was their idea to include Jacob's birthday presents from his party earlier yesterday.

Allyson and Trenton, this picture is for you!

And yes, I'd do it all over again with you two, but next time since I have the disadvantage of being one person versus both of you, we place the bet when I have my elk tag! I will box the shirt and hat up and ship them up to you since I have absolutely no need for them anymore!

Almost forgot, to add insult to injury, I found out that Allyson giggled when she found out that her 8 pt scored 2/8" higher than my 10 pt. Its back to "Mr. Wooldridge" for you, Allyson! ;) And thank you, Allyson, for being such a good role model for my daughter. She really likes you. Trenton, thanks for just being you and making me laugh so much! I expect more phone calls from you, buddy! I hope those Cyclones pencils are helping you both with your school work! :D

What a great story and sounds like the kids had fun with it (and you too)! Hopefully you had a nice warm shower after you took that black and yellow filth off hahaha! :)

:D Who would have thought that a shirt and hat could make a guy look smarter!(although you sure have gotten shaggy since we saw you here):D We had a mess of a night so the kids didn't get to see the picture before bed. They will be excited to see that your debt has been paid.:way:

After a busy week the kids finally got to see the photo. They thought it was pretty funny, although Allison had to pointout that you spelled her name wrong.:D Allison says the Cyclones stink......her words, not mine!

Go Hawks!:way:
