Pictures from Saturday

First off, congrats to all who harvested a bird this season. I'll be having smoked tag leg for dinner. They put on quite a show for me on Saturday. 4 toms bred 5 hens 75 yards in front of me from 6am to 7am. They were really talking. With all those willing hens they didn't even bat an eye at my decoys or calls.

I like the last pic the best, he was really fired up!

It's too late now, but an idea for the future. If you have birds a ways out in the field and they are not coming in no matter what...wait until one or more of them are facing directly at you and then fire a couple of quick shots over their heads.

The sound may spook them and they may come right towards you, offering an in range shot. I got this idea from someone else many years ago and have only had the situation happen once that it might have worked. The birds were about 150 yards out in a field and were not coming out of the middle of that field for nothing. I could only stay for so long that day and couldn't wait them out, so I tried the "warning shot" scare tactic. It almost worked!

One of the toms came my way, but skirted my position a little too far out in the field, so no shot was taken after all, but it gave me a chance that I wasn't going to get otherwise.

Nice pictures, at least you saw some toms while hunting! :D
