Plague of the East winds

Shredder

These east winds are killing me......every farm I hunt makes for tough decisions on stand locations on these east winds. I have been in my Lone wolf stand a ton this week and am still having a tough time getting close enou for a shot. I have seen a couple of nice ones and passed a real nice one this week. Things are hit and miss right now...you find a hot doe, you have found the action....Good luck to all still stomping the timber

Out of my NR zone otherwise I would mud.....thanks for the offer tho

I had the same problem last year. This year I set up a couple of stands for SE and NE winds. It's really paid off for me this year, although I have yet to tag a buck.

Shredder,

I hear ya. Most of my sites are for SW-W-NW setups and the east winds have really limited my options. Spent all day Friday in the woods. Had planned on vacation that day based on some winds on weather.com from a few days earlier and when they changed it really screwed up a good vacation day.

I had already thought of that...the farm is just not set up for east wind hunts and limited trees in given areas make it all that tougher to find a location to go.

I'd take just one east wind, I can't get anyone into a great spot of mine in the mornings, need an east wind and all we've had is west winds...the spot has gone unhunted. Send them this way Shredder.

Sask...you can have them all....they stink for my hunting locations. I was able to sit in a stand for an east wind today only to see a great buck and a nice 8 bust thru two fences and beat the crap out of each other to romance a doe.......right by one of my NW wind stands

It seems like E or NE wind mostly this season. Ba Ba Boom! I make it work out a couple time, but it did pose some problems with the majority of my stands placed early for a westerly wind. I keep a self climber and a hang-on with a set of sticks in reserve as a rapid response kit! Good luck and no it's not late. (yet)

Placing more and more sets every year for south , east, se and ne winds. The old addage that the NW wind is predominant, i find becoming less and less true every year.

I honestly cant remember shooting a nice buck on a NW wind the last 4-5 years. Its always south or something out of the east.

The weather is a heck of alot nicer then it was when I was a little whippersnapper. I remeber everytime I hunted in the rut my first 5 years or so, its snowed, snowed, snowed and it was cold, cold, cold. I remeber wearing shorts 3 years ago in Iowa hunting on Nov 6th, walking up a logging road. Things are definately changing.

You'll be glad to know, Shedder, that I got my just desserts today: West wind! That meant hunting my favorite blind was out of the question. Hope you got to take advantage of the breeze from the west!
