Planting cedars

How do you guys protect cedar trees? Or is it a plant and hope the deer dont rip them to shreds?

Cedars are one of the few things that seem to thrive on neglect. At least that's what the ones I plant get treated with. I plant a bunch of them & let nature sort it out.

I've planted them in certain places and all were destroyed, mostly from buckrub damage, so should of had some cages to protect from antlers.

I'm in a high deer density area and they are the only trees the deer don't damage. I think your good to go just planting them if you have other trees around for deer to rub/thrash.

I planted over 1100 cedars on my place several years back. Had very very few with deer damage. One of the few planting that you really don't need to protect.

The deer don't eat mine but they pull them all out of the ground. Planted thousands to come back and see them laying on the soil.
