Any suggestions on getting an alerted buck to come back? It happened again to me tonight. I had three yearlings literally right under my stand tonight and they hung around for 30min. As they began to leave I heard leaves crunching behind me but assumes it was them, wrong. He came in down wind and had my scent before I had put eyes on him. He didn't blow, flag or bound away. He casually walked off and didn't respond to any grunts. When he was 70yds away I tried the rattle bag and that caused him to trot off faster. This is only my 5th yr bow hunting so I will take all the help I can get. Thanks.

Had the same thing happened to me this year, I ended up rattling him in a week or so later. He's still there, but a little educated now.

In my experience, if they know something is up I don't call at them at all. I take it as a loss and let it go. If you throw all your calls and tricks at him next time you try using them he won't be coming into them.

Yep, very true words here. Hard to do, yes, but true indeed.

If he came in downwind and got alerted he had your scent, not much will come to anything once they smell you.

Had a nice 8pt come in last night and got him to come back in 3 more times by just grunting and rattling. Came to 20 yards basicly in the open.

It's a little different when its a mature buck. They usually don't give you a second chance.

The worst thing you can do to a buck that is moving oiff after scenting you is to try to call to them. Better to let it go and hope for another time.

its also differnt if he knows something up...sounds like ur in a good spot maybe try some cover up scent...u can fool there eyes but not there nose...good luck...i had a 8 130" or so come by at 50 yards with a doe saturday she came through 45 seconds later he came through walked straight away from me i grunted and snort wezzed and nothing...45 mins later he came back through at about 75 yards i grunted and rattled at him still nothing thats why i was asking in a differnt tread if the rut was going on right now...acted like he had no interest in any of it...and i know it wasnt bcuz of the doe bcuz he left her...any insight to help both of out would be great...

He was atleast a 3.5 110-120 8pt. Wish I saved my tag...I now know for next year.
