It has come to our attention the Farm Bureau are going to the legislators and telling them what a negative impact the land owner registration and the harvest registration is having.
FB comment- The DNR is trying to keep landowners from receiving tags and how difficult it was to get the paper work done.
Our comment- All the registration has done is make it harder for NON LAND OWNERS to receive tags, which is the original purpose of law. It has never been the intent of the DNR or any other group to keep landowners or tenants from acquiring deer tags. What we do resent is…. people who lie about being a landowner. In the age of fund shortage why should DRN lose funds to liars and cheats? As for the concern about paper work, ever seen the paper work to get your ground in the federal crop program? Enough said no other is comment needed. Registering once every 3 years is a not hardship.
FB comment- Harvest registration too difficult, time consuming and not effective.
Our comment- Phone or internet time elapsed 3 minutes, not an issue. Not perfect but many times more accurate than old post card. Isn’t an accurate harvest report what everyone wants? When you add harvest program, with aerial surveys, road kills and spot light surveys it gives DNR more data for the management program and tag allotment for the next year.
Please contact your legislators, especially if they are a Senate Natural Resource committee member.
1. Let them know…. The landowner registration isn’t a hardship and has accomplished what it was put in place to do, stop the abuse by non landowners. The registration system has not stopped any landowner or tenant from receiving the tags they deserve.
2. The harvest reporting system may need minor changes or two, but works very well and a great management tool.
3. If you saw less deer this fall, your legislator need to hear this.
4. All programs are effective and working. They should be left in place.
Here are links to legislators
How to find your senators and representatives
http://www.legis.state.ia.us/FindLeg/
Just type in your address and zip
This link will show all House & Senate members
http://www3.legis.state.ia.us/ga/legislators.do
Once you have opened this link, you can get to individual legislators email and ph# if listed.
An email will help, but a phone call or direct conversation is the most effective. Most of the legislators will be home this weekend, give them a call or better yet buy them a cup of coffee.
Please be brief and to the point and very respectful.
Thank you for your support in advance
