We have had some deer in my area poached lately. 10 ft off The road head cut off. I'm thinking of typing up a flyer to throw in mail boxes in all the rural area. Have the numbers to contact and what to look for. So what do you guys think? Any ideas for the flyer or numbers to add would be appreciated. Thanks Cody

Local COs and poacher hotline

I put 1800 number, tip website, the local co and the surrounding county's also sheriffs number and surrounding sheriffs number paragraph at the bottom. I'm going to knock and talk if there not home put it in the mailbox.

I would avoid putting anything in there mail box. As far as I know it can be a federal offense to mess with anyones mail box. Thats what I was told 20 years ago when I use to deliver new papers. Good luck. We had a bad problem with poachers a few years ago, until we got a new CO. She made her presence know and the poaching stopped.

If they are 10 feet from the road, are you certain they were poached or just road kill that someone scavenged the head/horns from? Or perhaps the DNR/sheriff removed them? Did they have bullet/arrow wounds? Might have been poached but the scenario also fits road kill and though illegal to take antlers from road kill, the DNR/sheriff aren't likely to peruse that as vigorously as one that is shot.

I'm sick of seeing the same two trucks drive by my hunting area multiple times right before dark and stop to scan the grass field next to the timber. I can see them from my treestand. It's a older white extended cab dodge diesel and a crew cab dark blue chevy older body style. Thinking about just sitting out along the road to catch their plates. This is also in central Iowa.

Yeah it sucks if they are screwing up your hunt but if they are on the road and watching wild life they aren't doing anything wrong.

Ya we do a lot of preseason scouting from the road with a spotting scope

I have guys spotlight multiple times each week along a couple properties. They have shot from the truck before as well- the DNR officer for my counties is a good friend of mine - he patrols the area regularly now and it has def helped
