Illinois Man Accused of Poaching Turkeys in Iowa

MUSCATINE, Iowa (AP) The Iowa Department of Natural Resources says a man from Rock Island, Ill., faces as long as five years in prison and more than $10,000 in fines and civil penalties on turkey poaching and weapons charges.

Thirty-year-old Jerad Paul Roggenbauer was arrested earlier this week in Muscatine, and authorities say they seized a .30-06 rifle and two wild turkeys.

Roggenbauer faces a felony charge for having possession of a firearm as a convicted felon. He is also charged with 12 simple misdemeanor violations for various turkey poaching violations.

Court records show Roggenbauer was convicted of aggravated domestic battery last year in Illinois, plus prior hunting offenses in Iowa.

He is being held on $5,000 bond in the Muscatine County Jail, and officers there did not know Friday if he had an attorney.

turkeys

With a case like this there is no other conclusion that this guy poaches for the sake of poaching. Drives to Iowa to shoot turkeys with his rifle?? There should be plenty of turkeys that he can poach in Illinois? Gee, that sure sounds like fun---rifle hunting for turkeys!
