Pole Saws

Anyone have experience with battery powered chainsaw type pole saws? I've used an electric plug in style, but have some trees around my place that are a little far for extension cords. Also thought about using it for quicker cutting of some shooting lanes. I'm assuming they would do about the same as the plug in style, but wondering how long batteries would last. Thanks guys!

They'll work great for about a few months then the batteries will go to crap. Save yourself the headache and either get a really good hand pole saw or else go with a gas pole saw.

I had a battery powered weed eater and leaf blower, the first year it was great and then every year after the batteries got weaker and weaker. Batteries aren't cheap to replace and by the time it's all said and done you'll be further ahead just going with a good gas saw. Stihl makes a power unit called the Kombi. You can plug in a weed eater, yard edger, cultivator, pole saw, etc. It's a bit pricey tho.

Thanks Muddy. That's what I was wondering...how long battery would last each use and then on continued use. Obviously each use would depend on how much cutting, but the short lifespan of the batteries over time would get expensive. My manual pole saw/pruner just doesn't hack it sometimes (been frustrated many many times) with its flimbsy blade and mediocre tightener on the telescoping handle. Had to replace the pruner rope last year when it broke while trimming too!

Sthil and be done with it.

Love our Stihl gas powered but check out the silky commercial grade pole saw they will cut through anything we love ours for trimming shooting lanes and it goes alot higher than our Stihl.

I have a DR battery powered pole saw, used it for cutting shooting lanes, works great, batteries have come a long way, NiCad batteries are bad for building up a memory, lithium batteries are what you need to have, this DR saw uses lithium and although I know it's not gas powered it did do what I wanted and was able to cut down some pretty good sized stuff.
