poor man's food plot

In the latest Field & Stream, theres an article on the poor Mans Food plot has anyone tried this before.
The article basically stated to clear an area around a dead tree, add lime & fertilizer, & then seed. Im thinking about making a few small food plotss to hunt.

Any ideas or tips

TAP, I have a similar spot that I put some seed mix in that I got from the MDC. It didn't do a thing. The area is exactly what was described in the article you are referring to.

The BIG difference is that we tried to do it without killing off the area first so we just got more weeds. I think that if we do it like the article described we would have better luck with it. I have saved the article and plan to get started on it soon following Dr. Woods plan. I think it's certainly worth trying.

I was thinking of trying that myself, but instead of clover maybe that biologic stuff, seen some at wally world.
