Power Scrape

Well been making some different mock scrapes and so far Power Scrape is the only one working.

I hate doing this because you really don't know what the score will be for sure until he is in your hands. Also if you like him then the score shouldn't matter.

Just that I am trying to get better at field judging deer and this is one way to learn. I feel he scores higher then what I am being told so I am asking for help.

Would you please score this deer thanks for your thoughts.

140-145 ish...I could be wrong!! if you happy with him, put a hole in him and then we could really get a good score of him!!

Im thinking your lacking tine length to go very far over 140. I would say your looking somwhere in the mid 130s. 6x5 as it looks. I'd put a hole in him no doubt in my mind.]

Thanks for sharing.

Sweet pictures! Do you think the active scrape is working, or do you think that you just put it on a scrape that was already being hit quite a bit? If it's a mock scrape that you made, do you think you just made it in the right spot? I dont' know if i'm really sold on deer scents and the power scrape stuff so I was just wondering.

You would know better than me though since you use it. You think it works well?

I actually made that scrape right in the middle of a funnel coming out of a bedding area. There are four different trails that lead to that scrape and I had two bucks hit it. Just that the other one was a dink so I left that one out.

That is a homemade scrape using Primetime Licking Stick scent for the over hang branch and Tinks Power Scrape.

Use a dead branch as big as your thumb as over hanging branch. (Noticed Deer use that as well when they make their scrapes.)

The scrape is two feet in diameter.

I went in scent free using rubber boots and rain paints to keep my scent down even more (Not 100% but helps.)

I have had other scrapes work but I think I got lucky in where I put them. As the years go on I start to learn more and tend to get better results. So far Tinks Power Scrape is the only one working.

YOU HAVE TO BE AS SCENT FREE AS YOU CAN OTHERWISE THE RESULTS WON'T BE AS ACCURATE.

Good Luck and hope this helps.

My eyes hurt from trying to define his antlers from corn! I also think he's around that 140 mark...j

Looks killable though, if your camera's time and day are correct. And not that mature deer don't work scrapes during daylight in the early season, but it may suggest him to be a little younger as well. Everything about that deer, as well as his activity on that camera, screams 3.5 yr old to me... Just my thoughts.

I say over 150 he has good mass 17-18 inch spread and long beams, 20-22 inches. He does look young but if he walked by me he wouldn't get any older. If you want to get better at judging deer print off some score sheets from the Boone and Crocket site and measure as many racks as you can. It is fun and and has made me better at guessing score by understanding how they add up.
