I am coming up around Nov. 10 to Iowa. Will this be in the middle of the rut or pre or post. I am hunting around ottumwa, Iowa which is the southeast part of Iowa. What is going on with the deer activity right now?
 
Should catch the tail end of pre rut. Begining of Locked on rut. 14th or so marks the rut according to most articles that I have read. You will likely have to hunt the doe's to catch the bucks. The first two weeks of November is when I like to burn up my vacation and sit in trees........

You should be hitting at about the right time I'm from Davenport and I hunt down in Eldon which is about 15 miles s.w. of ottumwa. Bucks already been pushin the does for 2 maybe 3 weeks already so you should be right on time. Hunt the does and hope you can get the big one to stop long enough for a shot. Goodluck!
 
Hopefully the weather has cooled back off by the time you get here. Pre rut, Rut, or Post Rut doesn't mean much to me unless the weather is cold enough to make the deer move. Not saying you can't connect on a mature deer when it's warm, but the cold weather seems to double or triple your odds in my opinion. Good luck with it this year, I'm sure you'll see some good deer.

I will be following you back to Iowa with my Booner from Pike. Three hours and counting until Georgia boy goes on the Real Tree Road Trip.
 
I also have 3 farms I hunt around Ottumwa,bloomfield area. I will be out Nov 5,6. If you want a report p.m. me and I'll try to give you as much help as I can.Its dry down there look for a water source.
