My guess now... Bucks are ready when their antlers are hard and if the weather cools down a bit will probably be cruizing for does more. End of Oct is money for pre rut. Just my opinion anyway. Course it probably depends what you call "pre rut"
the predicted rain and cooler weather for this weekend could mean good things as far as pre rut. personally i have seen no signs of buck activity such as scrapes or rubs...but i havn't been poking around too hard. i have a "feeling" for this weekend. i hope that the ghost motel doesn't charge too much for wheeler rentals!!
Come on get your priorities straight. Actually the first deer I shot (bow buck) was on the opener of pheasant season. I went out bird hunting in the am and went out to the deer stand that night. Awesome day. Good luck. Either one is fun.
I think with this weekend having a Dark Moon, Cooler weather, and about a million pheasant hunters and there dogs moving stuff for you, you almost have to sit in a bow stand all weekend. The deer I watched last weekend showed that the time is getting near. I seen at least two 3 1/2 year olds checking does. Not chasing them by any means but checking them none the less. One of them almost didnt make it . But anyway the best is yet to come.
What does everybody think about the Full moon and how thats going to effect the second week of Nov. ?
Also with all of the pheasant hunters out and about walking around deer are gonna get chased out of their hiding places. Especially if they are still in standing corn cause pheasant hunters will be tromping through that also. The 3 biggest bucks ive seen in my life have been out pheasant hunting chasing them out of ditches where you would never think a buck would lay but sure enough they have been. So it comes to if you wanna be the person chasing the deer out of the corn while shooting pheasants? or the person that harvest the huge buck no one has seen come out of the standing corn all summer or this fall and he happens to find a hiding spot that comes right by your stand? I'd choose deer but i haven't missed a pheasant opener in 8 years of hunting and with all the pheasants ive seen this year i need to fill my need of those tasty ditch chickens. Good luck this weekend, it should be good for pheasant hunters and deer hunters all around as long as its not 80*.
When it comes 7:00 am saturday morning i'll be killing the ducks and when 8:00 rolls around its pheasant hammering time
and then the same thing sunday
Good luck and be safe and wear your orange while out pheasant hunting, its not a law but its a lot safer and easier to see.
O.K. enough talking, back to the biology homework.
