I was wondering what all you turkey experts prefer to use as far as broadheads for turkeys. Do any of you shoot fixed blades. I shoot thunderheads 100's for deer. Can I use these for turkeys as well?
I shoot a 100 grain Cabela's head that is very similar to the thunderhead. This year I am going to be adding a stopper point to see if that helps much more. The head will work fine - shot placement is key.
Muddy helped us out in January with this topic, and again in February. The picture in this thread is great.
At first I was going to go with a large cutting diameter Rocket head...I think now I'm going to use a 100 gr. shockwave with the adder point behind it.
bukket, shockwaves are expandables by NAP, right? if so, DO NOT use an adder behind them otherwise you'll have about 2 inches of penetration. only use the stoppers on fixed blades in my opinion. i hit a bird with a rocket and an adder and it went in like 2 inches and then flopped out. didn't recover him but then again i think i killed more feathers than anything. an expandable will deilver plenty of ka pow without the adder.
I have used 100 GR. Thunder heads on about 5 turkeys. They work great!! As they do on deer. My bird last year went about 10 yds. after the hit! The year before my buddy shot one at about 8 yds, it was dead by the time he got out of the blind and to the bird .The bird did not move from the spot he was hit ! you can't ask for more than that from any head !
