public land

Does anyone know if the law states that a stand put on public land becomes fair game for anyone to use?

And can you find that in writing?

The only thing I can find in the regs is:
Tree Stands
You may not construct a permanent tree stand
on state public hunting areas. You may not drive or
in any other way place any nail, spike, pin, or any
other metal object into a tree on state public hunting
areas to construct a blind or to provide hunting access
to a location above the ground.
Tree stands may be left on a state public hunting
area from 7 days prior to the start of a deer season
until 7 days after the final day of that season.

I have a feeling that there is no such thing as a "private stand" on public land.

I would think that if you leave a stand on public land there's a good chance it would become someone else's.

I can't find it anywhere but I believe it is like duck blinds. First come first served. But, it is also like duck blinds in the fact that if someone has been hunting a blind for 20 years and finds you in it. You may end up with a fire on your hands...

I'm not up on my regs concerning this topic, but I thought at one point you had to have your stands "tagged" kind of like traps. Not sure if I'm just imagining that or if at one time it was true...but even so I wouldn't presume that meant that you were the only person allowed in that stand.

Public land = public trees = public use of whatever is there or not.

I'd just take my ladder or climbing sticks out with me if I were you. That way at least they'd have to bring their own to use your stand.

I remember somewhere where it is first come first served..even if it is yours...i will look it up and find it..it is in the regs though..and also, you have to have stands out so many days after hunting and cant put up until so many days before...and all of that on public...

i would hope that noone would consider using it. If someon was in my stand i probably wasnt decent about it.

Knock on wood, I have enough private ground to keep me busy.

If I were to hunt public ground I might have to stick to a climber stand.
