Just a Thought. Why couldnt we (as a group) start some qdm section of land. I mean it seems as though we have enough group members to get together and lock down an area. lease or buy i bet we could effectively. secure lots of conjioning acreage for hunting privileges only to iowa whitetail members. just thought maybe it is crazy but who knows.

I would put in $100/year for say 5 years to be a member of the Iowawhitetail Country Club, though I would want it to be for PMA members only. 400 members could pick up quite a chunk and it would be a good place for Rendezvous.

The hunting would have to be based on a draw system with preference points etc. Lets do it!
Hunt on All4s

I don't know Mike there are over 3000 members and that there are no propertys that ajoin as one and every one will want to hunt it you'll need a providence or state to hold a gang of big buck hunters. Nice thought though, I would love to have a part of that.

And it's free to be member and if it's any part of being a member it is affordable. Word gets around and you'll have every slob hunter in the US wounding deer on the tract of land. I think if the whole US would have an antler limit such as 8 points and 15 inch spread you'll have the QDM every where as long as farms keep running and food plots are put in areas that need them. I just enjoy hunting the family farm land, and the surrounding areas.

there's all sorts of ground like that out there for people to hunt on. it has green signs that say "public hunting" on them. hell, there's a 10,000 acre chunk 5 minutes from where i hunt that has whoppers on it if you just get off your butt and put in the time to figure it out. you don't even have to pay a tresspass fee or lease.

duckaholic - PMA is prime membership advantage. for small fee you get a shirt, hat, and window decal and access to some other private forums where the other PMA members pick on me.

it's great. check out the company store, there's a little info on becoming a PMA member.

I would probably just go there to do the drinking, you could hold a private classic just for members. It would be really sweet. I would pay a couple hundered a year just to shed hunt it.

Easy Muddy dont be giving away the farm. The free hat, shirt, and decal are only for those who purchase a lifetime membership.

just a thought not saying it is the best idea, god knows it would be a challenge. pricing could be based on which spieces you wanted hunt. turkey dear or what ever your flavor is. i know i am an outsider, i could prolly only get a tag every other year. with an anual flat line price to just be a member. like lets say 100 to be a member and 25 dollars for turkey and 35 for deer. imagine the area we could occupy (lease with about 30 grand a year). i bet that it wouldnt be regreted by any members

I think even if there was an iowawhitetail ranch, i would opt to not hunt it. it would be hard to have a 100+ guys all lease out land, and then have it work out well. everyone hunts different and everyone has different opinions on QDM, and if most is like me, i dont want anyone telling me i cant kill a 150 class buck but i can kill a 120 class that is scraggly and wont make anything bigger for a management buck. since it takes at least a year to really figure out a place, the next year you would be screwed when you couldnt hunt there because of a drawing, okay im thinking about a dream too much, but you could get a good chunk of land, but i doubt it would be any better than what i already got

Moose,

If I was a bettin' man, I'd bet most of the members here have access to good ground without having to use the "L" word. That's kinda the way we like it here in Iowa.

liv4rut, you are probably right i dont think it would be easy. land is leasing for about 12 an acre flat rate. on 30 grand means you get about 2500 acres if my math is right, awould about 70 to 100 hunters per year, this means you have to pick your season bow gun muzzleloader. i guess 25 hunters per season is not that bad on 2500 acres. we as a group would have to trust one another on what we are taking as far as trophy class wise. maybe there should be a comitee formed and people should have to fore go a skills test before they are granted a membership. on skills such as weapon handling and trophy scoring. i think that is a possibilty, i really do. just think it would be great to have a place where all the memebers could take pride, a way of giving back kind of. who knows maybe the first few years you, ah nevermind i am going to far.

i do have 40 grand, all4s maybe we will just lease a large tract and outfit it? sound good

You can probably find an invitation to hunt does on an area where someone has a QDM tract throughout the state. Leasing is expanding and so are the prices- it is going to take a bit more than beer money to lease ground in the near future. State tax revenue is off so the county hits the landowner up again to pay.

i think finding the ground to lease in one area that would be decent ground would be one of the biggest problems. would be neat if it would work, but would be really tough to get started.

i aint like that, but in five year i will be retired and will own a ranch or farm in iowa than we can hunt our brains out, if i live that long

I don't know about anyone else, but the land I hunt has little pressure during bow season and I like it that way.I am glad there are still some farmers who don't lease thier land out.Leasing has cost some of us around my area a lot of good hunting because we don't have the $$$ the rich guys who just want to bring his business clients/partners to hunt have.I know you are talking a tract of land for members but that would be a lot of people.I will stick to the 100 acres I have access to......
