Quad Cities area

This has been in the works for several months, but I made the jump to state of Iowa after graduation. I'm living in Davenport and working in Muscatine, so I'm looking for a few pointers from you folks as I moved down here without a whole lot of knowledge of the area.

First, whats a good gun shop? I'm looking to buy a handgun and/or a nice AR platform and I'm assuming Gander Mountain isn't my best choice.

Second, are there any archery clubs in the area? Im trying to shoot a lot this summer before bow season and need a place to shoot.

Third, hows the fishing on this stretch of the river? Is there any good bass fishing inland?

Thanks in advance, and no, I will absolutely refuse to wear any form of black/gold. Seeing it everywhere makes me homesick enough for Wisconsin haha.

I love Wisconsin!!:way: Left there about 45 years ago and always go back every year!! Who do you work for in Muscatine??????

Congrats on the move . I can't help you with much of those questions but I always liked going to the davenport valley archers out in Long grove. I grew up on that range.

I am not a bass fisher but I know some buddies who are and they catch a lot of bass on the missippi. I am actually quite shocked to tell yah the truth. I guess I just don't think of it as a bass spot. I prefer the catfish LOL

Good for you on refusing black and gold. It is repulsive. ;)

Welcome to the area. I like B&B for Guns and archery in Bettendorf. K&K for guns and fishing gear.

As far as fishing on the river the immediate area can be surprisingly good for walleye and cats but to me it is pretty much a barge canal. If I am serious about a day of bass fishing I'm going North. Pool 13 is no secret and a popular area for tournaments. It can be tricky to run but there are good maps of it available.

I'm doing sales/marketing for HON Company in Muscatine.

I used to fish a lot of tournaments on pools 8-10, sorta confirmed what I've always thought about the southern pools being barge canals. I might just put the flippin' stick down for a few more years and focus on the whitetails while Im a resident. Not paying $600 a year/a bow tag every 3 years really made the decision to move a lot easier.

Thanks for the point in the right direction guys, I appreciate it as I'm doing this thing blind and driving back to Madison or Allamakee county every weekend gets expensive

Well now when I said immediate i meant the quad cities area. Ask around down at HON I am sure some of the boys on the production floor are serious bass fisherman. There is some good fishing down that way too. The breaks is a popular community hole. It's not like up north but the fishing is there if you look for it. Ask about lake Odessa too. I have not been there for a long time but used to do pretty good there. Next time I'm down to HON I'll keep an eye out for the Badger.

Ive boated quite a bit in pool 16 but havent really known it for bass fishing. Ive fished a couple tournaments in pool 17 with my brother in law and there are several good areas. The best areas would be Eagle Fill, Big Timber ( The Breaks ), Hidden Acres, Cleveland Shute, and the spillway areas around the Muscatine and New Boston dams. We also hammered a couple good ones right in the Muscatine harbor a few minutes before weigh in on crank baits and jigs. Not really any good lakes right in the immediate area except for maybe West Lake by Davenport. Farm ponds and river backwater areas are my favorite bass fishing areas.. I live and work in Mexitine and would be willing to show you a few spots on the river if youve got a boat.

You moved to the "Worst State Ever"?! Dude!

Jeff and the guys at BNB will take care of you, archery or firearms, good guys for sure. (563) 355-4867 2152 State St, Bettendorf, IA 52722
As a couple others have said the DVA shoots out in Long Grove are always good, and members can shoot anytime. The guys at BNB can help you out with that also.

They are currently drawing Lake Odessa down for the duck hunters. I was told there is not much at all right now over 2 to 3 feet deep anywhere.

Lots of good fishing on the river in that area, bass both sallies and largemouth and a great area to catch cats especially during the spawn. We have had 30+ cats landed in an evening during the spawn.

Depends on what you are looking for in terms of archery as you know certain shops can't get some of the top end boes. I think ez livin in rock island carries bowtech, not sure who the Mathews dealer is and bnb and ez livin carry hoyt and pse.

I also think r&r is in Clinton which isn't too far and they are good guys to deal with. I know several guys over at hon and they are all avid outdoorsman shouldn't be hard to get hooked up.
