Question on chokes for turkey

Just wondering how many of you use extra full chokes when hunting turkeys?
I know a few guys who just use their modified chokes they already have and they say they work just fine and it actually helps on close shots so that your pattern isnt so tight that you miss. Gonna try turkey hunting again this year, hopefully i can finally get one.

I guess its just a matter of opinion on how far you think you will need to shoot. Me personally, i want the tightest pattern i can get to max. my effective range and put the most amount of shot i can into the bird. Even at close ranges I prefer the tight pattern, just dont rush the shot or take dumb ones and you shouldnt miss anymore than a more open pattern. Besides the more open the pattern, the better the chances are of wounding a bird or missing because of holes in the shot pattern. But thats just my
2 cents worth and I'm no expert by any means. Also good luck with the hunting part, hope to see some harvest pics.

im with rutnstrut, i like tight tight groups, i smoked one at 67 yards, the bird didnt even flinch.

also another thing you might want to consider if you have a larger pattern, is that alot of times you call in several birds, you dont want to kill yours and wound three others, just a thought, whatever you feel works go with it.

oh yeah, and by the way GOODLUCK!!!!!!!!

I agree....the tighter the better. My Mossy likes the Hastings .665 choke with 3in. Win. HV #6's. I have always used a .670 choke or tighter. I have mine topped with a Tasco red dot, so even if he is really close, I just try to take my time and put that dot right on him and there is no problem. I also know a few people that use just a modified tube....but my question is "why not get the best, and most dense pattern out of your gun?"
The more dense wall of high velocity lead I can send to that bird, the better. I like having a little extra range as well. The farthest I have ever shot a bird was 49 paces (and that was after a miss, and I wouldn't reccommend doing that all the time) and the closest was about 12 paces. I place my decoys at 25 paces and try to shoot all my birds at 35 yards or less. Nothing like having a bird go down without a flop.

no deadeye, ive patterned my gun alot, that bird had many holes in its head and neck, i wouldnt of done it if i couldnt of.
