Question on seeding??

I have a plot I had to till up again because of weeds. Not that big an area. I now have furrows. I have a crank type seeder. I have used my hand in the past. Seeder actually not that much better. Usually get to much seed, to thick in places. I get seed out then rake. Wondering if I should do the usual, recommended walk across with crank or carefully hand sprinkle seed in ready made furrows and rake over furrows? Thanks

Probably not much difference and no big deal,,but because I use a tiller I have nice furrows, Was thinking maybe to use the furrows,,lightly sprinkle seed in, and I mean lightly,,then just rake over the furrows,,,,{again ,lightly}..

Guess. I'll use the seeder. Try to not let any dribble out of it in piles. Wife bought it for me, guess I should use it. Had better get to it. I see storms in SW Iowa again this evening!! Even a severe one up north of I-80 in Neb. Here we go again I'm afraid!

Radish & turnip r easy. U "likely" can get away with broadcasting if soil is disturbed. Always better to pack or drag but radish & turnip are a low depth seed. Ur fine. Seeds that need more depth for better success are big ones like oats, peas, etc. Especially something like oats- broadcast on top- usually a total failure. Turnip & radish- ur fine.

Yes I have planted these before broadcast and laying on top of wet ground, all have come up. I used my crank seeder last night. then raked. One mistake,,should have rounduped weeds before rotto tilling, but wanted to till early while cool. Expect some hearty weeds to come back up but can roundup em, as will take a wk for radish and turnip to come up.

My brassicas sprouted in like 2 days. I will have to spray cleth in the next week or so too busy.

My top few inches of soil are dry now. I rottoed it and raked seed under. Believe it or nor could use a little rain now to get that top few inches damp, where seed probably is. Not very far down though is plenty wet still,, from all the rain. Looks like more wet is coming at some point this next week. Hate to say could use a little moisture, after all we've,,I've,,, had!
