Question: out of state

I am new to Iowa. I moved here a little over a year ago, and I am wondering if anyone knows about out-of-state hunters coming in to hunt. My dad is wanting to come up and late muzzleload hunt. Is he able to buy a doe only or a holiday hunt tag over the counter? I know in order to obtain a any-deer/statewide tag he must apply in June or July, but I can not find anything on antlerless tags. Some of my co-workers say that they have family come from other states to shotgun hunt, and they buy a over the counter doe tag. If anyone can help me out, i would greatly appreciate it. I have looked on the DNR website and read the hunting guide lines and can find nothing. Thanks

Thanks for the info. Is there a deadline for the purchase of the tags? Would he be able to party hunt off my anydeer muzzleloader tag?

As far as I know party hunting during the muzzleloader seasons is illegal.

I think to party hunt with a muzzeloader, once you kill your deer, you are done, and can't go back out to help push to another hunter. It may not be legal to do that either but I think it is.

"Party hunting" basically means sharing tags among hunters present in the group, and is only legal during seasons in which shotguns are legal weapons. If your father could get a late ML antlerless tag he could hunt with you but he could not use your tag to legally tag a buck. If you fill your tag, you may assist him by doing drives, etc, but you cannot carry a weapon. Similar to turkey hunting, a licensed hunter may assist another, but not shoot his animal nor carry a weapon w/o an unfilled tag.

Thanks for the great info. I've read the hunting guide lines over and over, and one can inturpret the rules however they want to. Thanks again
