Question regarding License?

Do you have to apply by a certain time as a resident? I am trying to read up on the laws but a little confused on a couple things.....Are you only allowed to hunt one of the gun seasons and not both?

Thanks

Iowa residents can buy licenses at any time.

The only legal way to hunt both shotgun seasons is with a shotgun landowner tag.

Is there a stipulation on a mininum amout of land owned?
Yes, I think that might be in the regs. I'm under the impression that a person needs a minimum of 40 acres to be considered a farm in Iowa, but that might be a different standard.

Nope....only need 2 or more continuous acres for LOT tags.

2 acres?! I thought it was 5! Darn regs...now I have to tell my friend who owns 4 1/2 acres he can get a LOT! He's never been hunting and those 4 acres are actually right next to a managed piece of ground :) he wants to go. I can also get LOTs.

and you may only use that tag on that property:way:

It has been quite a while since I looked into it but years ago it was my understanding that you had to be able to show a profit, or loss, from a crop of some sort in order to be legal to get a LO tag. Back then I was told that some people planted and sold pumkins just so they were able to show the profit or loss. This was from the game warden in my area back then so it might have been his own twist to it, who knows???

Gotta own at least two acres that are operated as a agriculture unit. You have to be the one who farms it or you actively participate in the operation or make farming decisions. Basically you are filing your taxes on Schedule F and are making a profit or loss as bowman said. Having ground in crp also qualifies.
